Nobody has any real idea of what to expect from COD 2021. I understand that Call of Duty has a formula that they follow in terms of announcements and release dates, but we haven’t even had a reveal trailer yet. That being said, in what seems like it’s going to be a down year for Call of Duty, Battlefield can easily overtake Activision’s monster franchise in terms of sales and popularity. They have the makings of a great game, and it’s up to them to deliver. After the reveal of the Battlefield Portal mode at EA play yesterday, it seems that the ball is in EA Dice’s court. So far, we know that Battlefield 2042 is a large-scaled multiplayer shooter set in the near future during a resource war where mercenary soldiers are hired by the US and Russia to fight in ‘the next world war.’ While some players expressed disappointment that there wouldn’t be a single-player campaign, the reception has been strong right from the beginning. Battlefield has always been a top-tier franchise, but it never quite got to the level that Activision has reached with Call of Duty. Battlefield 2042 was announced by EA Dice earlier this summer to overwhelming positivity. This opens the door for another massive franchise to become the new top dog in the FPS category. The COD community also be apprehensive about buying a new game early, given the seemingly neglected nature of Black Ops: Cold War in 2020.

Codenamed ‘Call of Duty: Vanguard,” according to the leaks, it seems that the idea of another World War 2-themed game is not what the vast majority of the COD community wants. On top of all that, word on the street is that COD 2021 is going to be a disaster. Honestly, it’s pretty hard to read, and it’s incredibly disappointing as someone who plays a lot of Call of Duty. If you haven’t read anything about it yet, I won’t summarize. If it wasn’t enough that Warzone is quickly losing its player base to hackers and Activision’s seemingly half-hearted attempt to solve the issue, the state of California has also filed a massive lawsuit against the company for their alleged workplace misconduct with women.
